About FECAIRAN


Fecairan (Federation of Agro Industrial Cooperatives for Sustainable Management of Natural Resources) is a federation of 10 different cooperatives. These cooperatives are located in 5 different municipities of Petén.


The main objective of FECAIRAN is to offer the following services to the affiliated cooperatives and the villages:

  • Administration
  • Production
  • Comercialización
  • Industrialisation
  • Exportation
  • Sustainable use of natural resources
  • Credits
  • Project management
  • Gender issues

Through these activities FECAIRAN hopes to improve the economic and social situation of the associates, thereby contributing to the good development, the peace and the democration of Guatemala.

Studies and Production:

In most of the Cooperatives that are member of FECAIRAN, technical studies have been done concerning their natural resources. These studies include detailed information on the existing rainforest, the different soil types, the water sources and the climate.

Currently, in the Cooperatives a big variety of crops are being produced, including maize, beans, pumpkin seed, rice, sesame seed, peanuts, pineapple, chili, bananas, papayas, all spice, lemons and other citrics.

Industrialization:

The industrialization of these crops is one of the main objectives of FECAIRAN, R.L., in order to provide the producers with an aggregated value that increases family income, at the same time creating job opportunities within their community.

Commercialization:

FECAIRAN, R.L. counts with an organizational structure and with the basic infrastructure that facilitates the commercialization of the agricultural production of its affiliated Cooperatives. Through this activity FECAIRAN, R.L. wants to offer its members a secure market and a fair price for their products.

Administration & Accountancy:

Through periodic courses, FECAIRAN, R.L. hopes to capacitate people in the Cooperatives that are capable to have influence on their own development.

Credits:

FECAIRAN, R.L. has extended small credits to producers in its Cooperatives in which the production itself stands as guarantee for the payment of the loan. The success of this activity will hopefully lead to the creation of a specific credit department in the future.
